Rocky Mountain High! Guided Motorcycle Tour

Come ride with us through the central Rocky Mountain range’s stunning scenery and impressive national forests. Ride along crystal clear alpine mountain lakes, along steep mountain rivers and gorges, cross the Continental Divide and through breath-taking national parks. Stopping at historic places like Medicine Bow and Cody Wyoming. See where the battle of the Little Bighorn took place, where general George Armstrong Custer made his infamous “last Stand” against the native American tribes. The “Mile high” city of Denver is your starting point and that’s not even in the foothills! Experience the motorcycle paradise of winding roads along the peaks-to-peaks highway, the open expanses of the plains of Wyoming and Beartooth pass into spectacular Yellowstone national park. Admire the variety of landscapes and wildlife along the way, including the great plains’ prairie dogs, pronghorn antelope and bison (buffalo) as well as mountain goats, mule deer, elk in the mountains. Weather-permitting, we’ll ride the highest paved road in the USA and then walk the last few metres to the 4300m summit of Mount Evans, for a spectacular 360° landscape view. With a combination of vast open spaces, peaceful mountain landscapes and (very!) high alpine passes this tour is for you.

Day 1 Welcome to Denver, the Mile High City!
Day 1 Welcome to Denver, the Mile High City!

Welcome to Denver Colorado, the “mile high” city and starting point for our ride through the many beautiful and intriguing places in the Rocky Mountains!

Upon arrival at Denver international airport, get your luggage and head toward the light rail station on the southern end of the airport. Take the light rail from the airport to central station in downtown Denver. Our hotel is a reasonable walk from the rail station through the heart of downtown Denver. Upon arriving at the hotel, get checked in, drop your bags in your room and come on down to the welcome desk to meet your tour guides and finalize the tour paperwork with a few signatures. Afterward feel free to explore downtown Denver’s LoDo and 16th street mall and all the bars, restaurants, and shops. Just be sure to be back in time for the complimentary welcome dinner and a briefing by the tour guides about our adventure to come. One note of caution, since you’re a mile above sea level, moderate your alcohol consumption, up here it has a more pronounced effect!

Day 2 Denver – Estes Park
Day 2 Denver – Estes Park

Good morning! We hope you got a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast and get ready to go. Put on your riding gear and bring your luggage out to the support vehicle to be loaded. We will then take our arranged transportation to the bike pickup and go retrieve our motorcycles.

Once we have our motorcycles it’s time to get on the road and start our adventure! We will start by heading out of the Denver metro area and into the adjacent foothills and mountains. We’ll ride along the front range through Evergreen and then the once historic mining districts of Blackhawk, central city and into Nederland for lunch via the scenic and twisty peaks-to-peaks highway. After lunch it’s a short but beautiful ride into Estes Park, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. Time and weather permitting we’ll ride into the park and up Trail Ridge Road pass, the highest continuously paved mountain pass in North America.

Have a great dinner and get a good night’s sleep, tomorrow the adventure continues

Day 3 Estes Park - Casper, WY
Day 3 Estes Park - Casper, WY

This morning we descend down through the canyons and valleys, and back onto the great plains. We’ll ride along through the foothills and into the rolling plains of Wyoming. We’ll ride through the great expanse and isolation and to our lunch stop in Medicine Bow, here we’ll have lunch at the Virginian Hotel, historic stop along the old Union Pacific transcontinental railway, Oregon Trail and Lincoln Highway. Then it’s back on the road and to our hotel in Casper for the evening.

Day 4 Casper - Cody, WY

We’ll ride along Boysen reservoir and the Bighorn river through Teeter canyon to our lunch stop in the natural hot springs town of Thermopolis. After lunch we’ll continue through bizarrely beautiful scenery to our overnight in Buffalo Bill’s historic Irma Hotel. Belly up to the historic bar for a beer, sit on the patio and watch the world go by in this Historic old west hotel. Have a great dinner at one of the many downtown restaurants and have a good night’s rest, our ride continues tomorrow!

Day 5 Cody - Billings, MT
Day 5 Cody - Billings, MT

Today we head East through the valleys and into Bighorn National Forest for a ride through mountains and forests. After a brief lunch stop in Dayton we head northeast to Montana and our attraction in Crow Agency. Here we’ll take some time to visit the infamous Little Big Horn, where General George Armstrong Custer and the 7th Calvary met their destiny with the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes, most commonly referred to as “Custer’s Last Stand”. After learning all about one of the most famous battles in Western history we’ll head toward our hotel for the evening in Billings.

Day 6 Billings - West Yellowstone
Day 6 Billings - West Yellowstone

Today we leave Montana behind us and head back into Wyoming by way of a fantastically scenic ride over Beartooth highway. This pass leads us into another of America’s greatest National Parks, Yellowstone! We’ll ride through the Northern section of the park, stopping along the way at many of its scenic overlooks and natural Geysers and hot springs. We will be riding through one of only a few super-volcanos in the world today, but don’t worry, it only erupts about every 600,000 years! We’ll make our way through the park to our hotel for two nights in West Yellowstone, where we can get a nice dinner and a good night’s rest.

Day 7 West Yellowstone (Free Day)
Day 7 West Yellowstone (Free Day)

Today is your day to explore Yellowstone National park as you wish. Head over to the main lodge and the “Old Faithful” geyser, or ride around to the other various natural hot springs, geysers and thermal pools throughout the park. Keep your eye out for the parks’ variety of wildlife including buffalo, deer, elk, antelope, wolves, and much more! Be sure to stop off at Yellowstone falls, known as the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Whatever you decide to do, have a fabulous day in one of the crown jewels of America’s National park system.

Soon we arrive in Grand Tetons National park, where we will have time for lunch at the Teton Village and even take an optional gondola tram to the top of the ski area for a fantastic view of the majestic Teton range. Then it’s back down the mountain, back on our motorcycles to ride into the scenic and eclectic town of Jackson. Be sure to walk around Jackson town square, and enjoy the variety of restaurants, nightlife and shops. Just don’t over-do it tonight, we’ve got more riding ahead of us tomorrow!

Then we continue south into the bareness of the high desert, flanked by mesas and mountains to our East. Following a rest break in Green River, we continue toward Moab. On our way we will stop at Arches National Park for a look at the wild variety of sandstone monoliths and natural bridges.
